Racism in the GOP?

July 7, 2009

Who would have thought? I’m sure there is some racism in both parties, but I only stumbled across this article.

Honestly, I am always shocked when I read about, or listen to people’s racist comments, these days. I know we have come a long way as a society, but it is obvious that we have a long way to go.

John Avlon writes in his blog about the most recent public display of racism afflicting the Republican Party: Audra Shay’s facebook debacle wherein Shay, the vice chairman of The Young Republicans, LOL’d at a racist comment from another facebook user left as a comment to her status. You can view the facebook status here and a follow up here.

After the first incident, where user Eric S. Piker uses the word coon, two other users comment how it is unacceptable and clearly racist.

Shay responds by “de-friending” the two users who spoke out against the comment, NOT the guy who wrote the comment. And then she says she was appalled by the comment. Yeah… sounds like it.
